In a stunning twist of the 2025 Masaza Cup, ten-man Ssese FC defied the odds to snatch a gutsy 1-0 victory over record champions Gomba at the electrifying Kabulasoke PTC grounds.
Despite entering the clash as underdogs, especially after a 2-0 humbling at home by Busujju, Ssese showcased heart, grit, and tactical resilience to claim all three points in hostile territory.
The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams jostling for dominance but failing to break the deadlock.

Gomba, still reeling from an opening day defeat to Buddu, made an early tactical shake-up, substituting Kusiima Kelly for Apenyo Isaac before halftime in search of fresh attacking momentum.
Just 12 minutes after the restart, Fahad Bukenya pierced through Gomba’s defense to fire home the decisive goal, sending the Ssese faithful into a frenzy.
As the pressure mounted, Gomba threw everything forward, but Ssese’s shot-stopper Juma Kirabira rose to the occasion with a string of jaw-dropping saves.

His commanding presence between the sticks earned him the Man of the Match honor.
The game’s drama escalated in the dying minutes as Bashir Mobin of Ssese received his marching orders after a second yellow, leaving the visitors to defend their slender lead with ten men.
Gomba rang the changes, bringing on Kakande Lawrence, Joseph Ssewali, Masembe Dirisa, and Alvin Kitiibwa in a desperate attempt to claw back, but Ssese’s disciplined unit held firm to secure a famous win.

This result stretches Gomba’s winless streak to two games, anchoring them at the bottom of the Bulange group table with zero points.
Meanwhile, Ssese climb to 4th place with 3 points breathing new life into their campaign.
