A Call for Support for Favor Nambatya’s Road to Recovery

In the unpredictable world of football, injuries are an unavoidable setback, and for Ugandan forward Favor Danielita Nambatya, fate dealt a cruel hand in January 2024.

The gifted footballer suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury while training at a playground in Nakawa, Kampala, during the off-season. What seemed like a minor mishap at first gradually escalated into a significant concern, forcing her to pause her promising career.

Speaking exclusively to Xavi Sports Media, Nambatya recounted the fateful moment. “I landed badly while taking a shot on goal. At first, I thought it wasn’t serious, but as I got home, my knee started swelling, and the pain kept increasing.”

The injury came at a time when she was already facing a tough decision regarding her professional journey. Having played for Rwanda’s Apaer FC, she had opted not to return due to unresolved payment issues.

Instead, she secured an opportunity to join Kampala Queens, but the persistent knee trouble limited her training sessions.

As the discomfort intensified, she sought medical advice and underwent an MRI scan, which confirmed the devastating diagnosis—an ACL tear requiring surgery.

The procedure, critical to her recovery, comes with a hefty price tag of Ugx 5.5 million, a sum her family is unable to raise. Like many talented athletes from humble backgrounds, financial constraints now threaten to derail her aspirations.

Nambatya is now making an earnest appeal to well-wishers, football enthusiasts, and the broader sporting community to rally behind her cause.

With time running out, she hopes to undergo the surgery and make a full recovery to continue pursuing her dreams.

Nambatya has etched her name in Ugandan women’s football through her remarkable journey across several top-tier teams.

She was instrumental in She Corporate Women Football Club’s triumphant 2021-2022 FUFA Women Super League campaign.

Her football roots trace back to her formative years at St. Mary’s Boarding School Kitende, Masaka SS (Aga Khan), Kawempe Muslim, Muteesa Royal University, and most recently, Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

At club level, she has showcased her talent with some of the finest teams, including Kawempe Muslim Women Football Club, Muteesa Royal University Women Football Club, and She Corporate Women Football Club. Her journey is one of resilience, skill, and an unwavering passion for the beautiful game.

Now, as she battles her toughest challenge yet, it is time for the football fraternity and well-wishers to step in.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings her a step closer to the much-needed surgery and a chance to get back on the pitch where she truly belongs.
