Police FC head to Najjembe this Wednesday with a clear mission to secure their first-ever triumph over Lugazi FC and surge back to the top of the Uganda Premier League standings.
The Cops, currently trailing leaders KCCA, confront a stubborn Lugazi side they have never beaten in four previous encounters.
Three of those duels ended in stalemates, while the most recent fixture saw Lugazi clinch a narrow 1-0 victory courtesy of an Abdul Kalanzi penalty last season.
Their history stretches back to the 2023/24 Fufa Big League campaign, where both meetings finished level, highlighting the fine margins that have defined this budding rivalry.
Despite their challenging record against Lugazi, Police enter the contest as the sharper outfit.
The 2005 champions have displayed impressive form this term and will be boosted by the potential return of forward Charles Bbale and leading marksman Bedia Ikamba.
They join an already potent frontline featuring Denis Kalanzi, Umar Kasumba and Lawrence Tezikya.
Lugazi, meanwhile, find themselves in a precarious position, 13th place with nine points from nine matches.
Another defeat could plunge them dangerously close to the relegation zone. The hosts will need a spirited performance at the Lugazi FC Stadium to stall a Police side hungry for the summit.
Elsewhere on the day, Buhimba United Saints and UPDF FC square off in a tense relegation skirmish at Royal Park in Butema, Hoima.
Both teams are desperate for points as they battle to climb away from the drop zone.
