Blacks Power Stuns NEC FC in Uganda Cup Shocker as Giants Fall in Round of 32

The Stanbic Uganda Cup has delivered its most electrifying twist yet, as Blacks Power FC pulled off a sensational upset, knocking out top-tier contenders NEC FC with a commanding 2-0 victory at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. The FUFA Big League side’s triumph has set the competition alight, proving once again that in knockout football, giants can fall and fall hard.

The breakthrough came just before the hour mark, as Innocent Maduka seized the moment with a clinical finish in the 58th minute. As the tension mounted, teenage sensation Joshua Omara sealed the deal with a brilliant strike in the 81st minute, sending the Blacks Power faithful into wild celebrations.

NEC’s night could have taken a different turn had they capitalized on an earlier opportunity. In the 53rd minute, Paul Mucureezi was handed a golden chance from the spot, only for fate to intervene a double touch call crushed NEC’s hopes of seizing control. The miss proved costly, and Blacks Power pounced with ruthless efficiency.

This defeat will sting for NEC FC, last year’s finalists who narrowly missed glory against Kitara FC at Mutesa II Wankulukuku Stadium. For a team eyeing redemption, this shock exit will leave lingering questions.

Elsewhere, Gaddafi FC flexed their attacking prowess, dispatching Bushenyi Veterans with a comfortable 3-1 win at the Kampala Quality Primary School playground.

Goals rained in early as Samuel Kawawa Junior, Duncan Sseninde, and Ronald Bithum found the back of the net in a devastating three-minute flurry during the first half.

Meanwhile, KCCA FC emerged victorious in a tense battle against Kuluva Rainbow FC, securing a hard-fought 2-1 win in Arua City. Striker Derrick Nsibambi was the hero of the day, delivering a clinical brace that propelled the ten-time Uganda Cup winners into the next round.

With the stakes soaring, the race to claim the prestigious Stanbic Uganda Cup title—and the golden ticket to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup is heating up.

The Uganda Cup round 32 folds up on Wednesday 26th February as Maroons hosts Wakiso Giants at the Luzira maximum Prison Grounds.
