Lugazi FC Clinches Vital Win Over Express FC

Lugazi FC secured a crucial three points with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Express FC in their Uganda Premier League clash at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on matchday nineteen.

A brilliant first-half strike from Sharif Saaka proved to be the game-winner, as Lugazi completed a season double over Express, replicating their earlier result.

The victory provided a much-needed boost for the home side, bouncing back from a 2-0 defeat to NEC FC in their previous fixture.

With this win, Lugazi climbed to 11th place on the league table, amassing 23 points and establishing a 10-point cushion above the relegation zone. Express FC remains in fifth place with 28 points.

Both teams created numerous chances in an exciting contest, with goalkeepers standing tall to keep the scoreline tight. Lugazi’s shot-stopper Mutebi pulled off several key saves, denying Express duo Richard Basangwa and Samuel Ssenyonjo in crucial moments.

The decisive moment arrived just before halftime when Sharif Saaka exhibited individual brilliance to break the deadlock.

After receiving the ball inside the box, he expertly turned past his marker before unleashing a left-footed curler that sailed past the goalkeeper, sending the home fans into celebration.

In the second half, Lugazi demonstrated defensive discipline to preserve their slender lead, frustrating Express FC’s attempts to find an equalizer.

Up next, Lugazi FC hits the road for an encounter with Mbale Heroes on Friday, March 13th, while Express FC will be aiming to bounce back as they welcome Police FC on the same day.

Meanwhile, the StarTimes Uganda Premier League matchday nineteen action continues, with NEC traveling to face struggling Wakiso Giants, while URA FC hosts UPDF FC at Nakivubo Stadium.
