Gomba Saza has officially named Simon Ddungu, popularly known as ‘Dunga,’ as their new head coach in preparation for the highly anticipated 2025 Buganda Masaza Tournament.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, March 18, during an unveiling event at Mulengera Sports Arena in Nsangi.
The appointment of Dunga has sparked enthusiasm among Gomba supporters, as he prepares for a second stint at the helm.
Having previously led the team to Masaza Cup glory, the experienced tactician is determined to make history by becoming the first coach to successfully defend the prestigious title.

“I am thrilled to be back home, where I have already written history. I sincerely appreciate Chairman Andrew Musasizi for his unwavering efforts to bring me back from Buddu,” Dunga stated. “I am the first coach to voluntarily depart Buddu without being dismissed. With divine guidance, I assure all Gomba fans of more triumphs, as I am one of the most accomplished coaches in this competition.”
Gomba Saza’s new chairman, Andrew Musasizi, emphasized unity among supporters, urging them to rally behind the team. “We have allocated a significant budget of 600 million UGX for this campaign. Therefore, we call upon all football enthusiasts from Gomba and beyond to collaborate with the management in making this season a resounding success,” he stated.

Dunga boasts an illustrious coaching background, having previously handled teams such as Buwekula, Mawokota, Busiro, and his former side Buddu, whom he guided to victory in last year’s tournament, triumphing over Kyaggwe in the final.
His decorated résumé also includes leading Gomba to Masaza Cup glory in 2017 and serving as assistant coach during Mawokota’s successful campaign in 2013 under Edward Golola.
Assisting Dunga in his quest for success will be Simon Gita as the first assistant coach, while Bwogi Edgar takes on the role of second assistant.
Magaasi Jamada has been entrusted with the goalkeeping department, while Kawuki Tony will serve as the team’s kits manager.
Buganda Kingdom’s Minister of Youth, Sports, and Arts, Owek. Robert Sserwanja, earlier this year unveiled the official Buganda Kingdom Sports Calendar, confirming that the 2025 Masaza Cup tournament will commence with a launch on July 2, followed by the official kickoff on Saturday, July 5.
As the record holders of the Masaza Cup with five titles to their name, Gomba will be aiming to extend their dominance in the competition.
