With the prestigious Buganda Masaza Cup fast approaching, all eyes are on Gomba Saza, the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
The five-time champions have already made a bold statement by unveiling their 2025 technical team, led by the experienced head coach Simon Dungu, popularly known as ‘Dunga.’
In a high-profile ceremony, the Gomba Saza Organizing Committee, spearheaded by Chairman Andrew Musasizi, launched an ambitious UGX 600 million budget to power their campaign for a historic sixth title.
The commitment and readiness of the committee have raised speculation among football enthusiasts “could this be the year Gomba reclaims its throne?”
On Wednesday, March 19th, a distinguished Gomba Saza delegation, led by Kitunzi Owek. Mugabi Fred William, alongside team patron Mr. Daniel Mwesigye, Chairman Andrew Musasizi, and other key members, convened to map out a strategy for securing the colossal budget.
The team’s unwavering determination was evident as Patron Dan Mwesigye took the lead, making an initial contribution of USD 3,000 (approximately UGX 11,100,000).
In his passionate address, Mwesigye expressed deep gratitude to the Kabaka of Buganda for fostering unity through the Masaza Cup and called upon all Gomba natives to rally behind the cause.
With an illustrious record of 10 final appearances, culminating in five victories and five narrow defeats, Gomba remains a formidable force in the tournament.
Their meticulous preparations and robust financial backing signal a serious intent to reclaim the title from defending champions Buddu, who edged Kyaggwe 1-0 in last year’s final at Mandela National Stadium.
The much-anticipated 2025 Masaza Cup officially kicks off on July 5th, promising another thrilling chapter in Buganda’s football heritage.
