Ngora is set to witness fireworks as St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende and Buddo Secondary School gear up for an all-Wakiso showdown in the final of the 2025 USSSA Boys’ National Football Championship.
Dubbed the Wakiso Derby, the fixture promises intensity, pride, and high-stakes action as two of Uganda’s most dominant footballing schools clash for national glory on Wednesday.
Kitende secured their place in the final under controversial circumstances after their semifinal encounter against Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) was halted and later awarded in their favor.
The match, abandoned in the 39th minute, descended into chaos following a disallowed JIPRA equaliser, prompting violent reactions from fans and technical staff.
Amid the confusion, the assistant referee fled the pitch for safety, and security forces had to intervene to protect match officials.
After an official review, the tournament’s organising committee ruled to disqualify JIPRA, citing gross misconduct and breaches of competition regulations.
The decision cleared the way for Kitende to advance to yet another national final setting up a much-anticipated rematch with Buddo SS.
Buddo punched their ticket to the final after edging Bukedea Comprehensive School 5-4 on penalties, following a tense goalless draw in regulation time.
Their resilience under pressure marks a significant return to the national final stage their first appearance since 2018.
The final now reignites one of Uganda’s fiercest school football rivalries. Just last month, Kitende outclassed Buddo 2-0 in the Wakiso Zone final held at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, a result that will no doubt add fuel to Buddo’s fire as they seek redemption.
With regional bragging rights and a national title on the line, the Wakiso Derby in Ngora promises to be a spectacle of skill, passion, and drama, one that could write a new chapter in the storied rivalry between these two school football giants.
