Mpande Inspires Uganda to Vital CHAN Triumph Over Guinea

Reagan Mpande’s commanding performance and crucial opener set Uganda on course for a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Guinea in the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024 on Friday night.

The young star’s well-timed first-half header broke the deadlock at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, paving the way for Allan Okello’s composed penalty kick and Ivan Ahimbisibwe’s late strike that wrapped up the victory.

From the first whistle, Mpande set the tone with his energy and sharp movement, while goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa kept the West Africans at bay with vital stops from Kabinet Kouyaté and Ousmane Drame.

Earlier, Algeria and South Africa had shared a 1-1 draw, meaning the Cranes went into their match knowing that only a win would keep their campaign alive.

The result propelled Uganda into second place in Group C on three points, level with Guinea but ahead on goal difference while Algeria remain top with four points.

Uganda returns to contention on Monday 11, as they take on Niger at Mandela National Stadium.
