Vipers SC president, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, has called for patience, dialogue, and inclusivity in the rollout of the newly proposed Uganda Premier League format, warning that football should not be the casualty of hurried decisions.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, 2nd September, Mulindwa described the changes as “a fundamental shift that cannot be implemented overnight.”
He emphasized that while innovation in football governance is necessary, it must be guided by thorough consultation and stakeholder involvement.

“One thing that we saw in that document was the timing. There was lack of consultation, lack of sensitization, and involvement of the key stakeholders,” he noted, underscoring the importance of transparency in football administration.
Mulindwa, a seasoned football administrator and educationist, stressed that reforming the league structure requires a phased, well-communicated approach that accommodates clubs, players, fans, and sponsors alike.
“This is a fundamental change, it’s not something you can change in a night. It takes time,” he asserted, urging FUFA and the league secretariat to prioritize dialogue.
In his closing remarks, the former FUFA president left the football fraternity with a powerful message:
“Football must win.”
The press briefing at Serena Hotel in Kampala, drew attention from media, club officials, and football enthusiasts, signaling that the conversation around the future of the Uganda Premier League is only just beginning.
