After six seasons in Uganda’s top flight, Wakiso Giants find themselves back in the FUFA Big League, beginning a journey of redemption that starts on September 28 against ambitious debutants Young Elephant at the Wakisha Recreation Ground.
The Purple Sharks, who became known for their flair and bold identity in the Uganda Premier League, suffered a painful relegation last campaign.
Now, they must navigate the rough waters of the second tier, where hunger, grit, and unpredictability often overshadow pedigree.
Their opening fixture is more than just a game, it is a statement of intent. Facing Young Elephant, a side buzzing with energy after sealing promotion, Wakiso Giants will be tested not only technically but also mentally as they adjust to life outside the top division.
Joining them from the Uganda Premier League are Soltilo Bright Stars and Mbale Heroes, who face baptism-of-fire openers away from home.
Bright Stars make the journey to Mbale to test Kataka’s resolve, while Heroes head to Iganga for a tricky date with United.
Elsewhere, Paidha Black Angels welcome Nebbi Central in Zombo in a West Nile derby full of intrigue, while Lira braces itself for a Northern Uganda showdown between Blacks Power and Onduparaka.
Ntugasaze will entertain Kyinda Boys in Mityana, Catda line up against Kigezi Homeboyz at Bugolobi Coffee Grounds, and Kaaro Karungi host Bunyoro United in Ntungamo to wrap up a packed weekend of action.
The season stretches until June 7, 2026, with the first round concluding on January 11 before the second commences on February 22.
At stake are two automatic promotion slots to the Uganda Premier League, while the third-placed side will battle the UPL’s 14th-placed team in a promotion/relegation playoff.
This campaign introduces ambitious debutants Young Elephant, Kyinda Boys, and Nebbi Central, all eager to leave their imprint after stepping up from the regional leagues. Their arrival coincides with the fall of established sides Booma, MYDA, Busoga United, and Arua Hill, who slipped out last season.
