University Football League: Nyeko’s Lone Strike Hands Gulu University a Winning Start Against Lira

Gulu University kicked off their University Football League campaign on a high with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over spirited debutants Lira University on Wednesday evening.

The match’s defining moment came in the 27th minute when forward Nyeko Rogers produced a cool finish that sent the home crowd into wild celebration.

Lira University thought they had stolen a share of the spoils late on when defender Solomon Okello rose highest to head in from a well-delivered free kick.

But the visitors’ joy was short-lived as the assistant referee’s flag ruled the effort offside, leaving Gulu fans breathing a sigh of relief.

The hosts dug deep to defend their slender lead until the final whistle, claiming maximum points that boost their dream of reaching the knockout phase this season.

For Lira University, the narrow loss showed glimpses of promise, especially from their battling second-half display, which they will hope to build upon in upcoming fixtures.
