Buhimba United Saints Silence Kitara in Bunyoro Derby

Newly promoted Buhimba United Saints continued their dream start to life in the topflight with a statement victory, edging Kitara FC 1-0 in a pulsating Bunyoro derby at Royals Park, Butema on Thursday evening.

In a clash that had the entire Hoima region buzzing with anticipation, The Saints once again rose to the occasion displaying grit, passion, and tactical discipline to make it three wins in three games, maintaining their perfect start to the campaign.

The story of the evening belonged to Edson Agondeze, who poetically haunted his former employers, Kitara FC, with the decisive strike in the 83rd minute.

The goal, born out of a defensive lapse, saw Agondeze react quickest to a teasing delivery from Maxwell Owachigui, nodding the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper James Alitho to send the home fans into wild celebrations.

Interestingly, Buhimba’s starting lineup was laced with familiar faces to Kitara faithful, Jamil Kiyimba, Ramathan Dudu, Eric Muber, Derrick Byabachwezi, Owachigui, and Agondeze, all of whom once donned Kitara colors.

Their inside knowledge of the opponents seemed to tilt the derby in Buhimba’s favor, as they played with a mix of composure and hunger that kept the visitors on the back foot.

Goalkeeper Kiyimba stood tall between the sticks, producing a string of crucial saves to deny his former teammates, while the defensive pairing of Muber and Dudu expertly repelled Kitara’s late charge.

The decisive moment came when John Wesley Kisakye was tripped on the edge of the box by Benjamin Nyakoojo, prompting referee Joseph Odoi to award a free kick.

Owachigui delivered a wickedly dipping ball that caught the Kitara defence flat-footed, allowing Agondeze to pounce and nod home from close range, a goal that will surely live long in the memory of Buhimba fans.

The victory cements Buhimba’s position at the summit of the league table with nine points, marking an extraordinary start to their debut top-flight season.

Meanwhile, Kitara FC’s struggles continue, as they linger in 12th place with just one point from their opening fixtures.
