Kyaggwe Files Petition Over Buweekula Player Eligibility

The 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup has been hit by fresh controversy after Kyaggwe Ssaza team filed a petition challenging the eligibility of one of Buweekula’s players, barely days after their semifinal elimination.

According to a letter signed by Kyaggwe management committee secretary, Fred Mpanga, Buweekula forward Ssonko Shafik, who donned shirt number 9, allegedly used wrong documentation during his registration for the 2025 Masaza Cup tournament.

Kyaggwe’s petition claims that Buweekula registered the player under NIN number CM1004710K8X6H, which reportedly belongs to Ssonko Shafrick—a person said to have been born on January 4th, 2010, making him under 16 years old. The tournament’s regulations strictly prohibit the participation of players below that age bracket.

“As per the rules governing the prestigious Buganda Kingdom-organized competition, no player under the age of 16 is eligible to play. The evidence we have provided clearly indicates a violation,” reads part of Kyaggwe’s letter to the organizing committee.

Kyaggwe was eliminated by Buweekula in a tense semifinal showdown at Bishops SS Ground, Mukono, where the tie ended 1-1 on aggregate before Buweekula triumphed 4-3 on penalties.

The Masaza Cup organizing committee is yet to issue an official statement regarding the petition, but the development adds a new layer of controversy to this year’s edition of the Buganda Kingdom’s most celebrated football tournament.

Meanwhile, Ssingo, who overcame Bugerere in the other semifinal await the final verdict as they prepare to battle for their third Masaza Cup crown against Buweekula in the grand finale slated for 1st November, 2025, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
