The Namuwongo Blazers have cast a shadow over the highly anticipated National Basketball League (NBL) Finals after threatening to pull out due to what they describe as “disrespectful and disorganized communication” from the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA).
Fresh from a historic qualification to the Elite 16 of the Road to BAL tournament in Tanzania, the Blazers returned home expecting to rest and prepare for the NBL Finals clash against reigning champions City Oilers, only to be met with confusion.
Initially, FUBA had officially communicated that the best-of-seven series would tip off on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

However, upon the team’s return, a new fixture surfaced indicating that Game 1 had been brought forward to Friday, October 24, a move that the club says caught them completely off guard.
In a strongly worded statement, the Blazers expressed their frustration over what they termed “a lack of transparency and professionalism” from the federation.
The team maintains that the Sunday date was the only officially confirmed schedule prior to their departure for Tanzania, and that no formal communication was made to announce any change.
The dispute comes on the heels of Namuwongo’s dominant semifinal sweep over the UCU Canons — a performance that showcased their hunger and determination to dethrone the Oilers. City Oilers, meanwhile, advanced to the finals after a hard-fought series win over Sommet Basketball Club.
Now, instead of celebrating what should be a thrilling championship showdown, Ugandan basketball finds itself mired in uncertainty. With the Blazers threatening a boycott, supporters are anxiously awaiting FUBA’s next move.
