URA Eye First Win as Police Host Resurgent Maroons

The Uganda Premier League returns midweek with a tantalizing double-header, as URA FC and Police FC brace for crucial fixtures that could set the tone for their campaigns.

At Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo (7 PM), URA FC are desperate to break free from their sluggish start when they welcome UPDF FC.

The Tax Collectors have endured a frustrating run of stalemates of four draws in as many games, managing just two goals in that stretch.

Head coach Alex Isabirye is under growing pressure to ignite his side’s attacking rhythm, and Nelson Ssenkatuka will once again carry the burden of inspiration up front.

“We’ve created chances but haven’t been clinical enough. This is the game we must turn things around,” Isabirye hinted ahead of the clash.

UPDF, meanwhile, arrive in Nakivubo with mixed fortunes — a win, a draw, and a loss from their opening three fixtures. The army side sits a point below URA (three points to URA’s four) and will be eager to spring a surprise against the favourites.

However, the odds tilt heavily toward the hosts. URA have lost just twice in their last 16 league meetings with UPDF (W9, D5).

Last season’s corresponding fixture ended 2-1 in URA’s favour, courtesy of Moses Aliro and Abraham Tusubira, while Faridi Rashid grabbed a consolation for the visitors.

Earlier in the day, the Police Arena in Kiira Road will set the stage for another compelling encounter as Police FC host Maroons FC (4 PM).

The Prisons side, buoyed by the return of midfielder Ivan Asaba from a concussion, will seek to build on their solid start against a Police team eager to make their home advantage count.
