Calvary stumble on home debut as Entebbe UPPC rain on their parade with 4–2 win

Calvary FC’s long-awaited homecoming to Yumbe turned sour as they suffered a 4–2 defeat at the hands of Entebbe UPPC FC in a pulsating Uganda Premier League encounter on Friday afternoon at the Midigo Primary School Playground.

Making their first appearance at home since promotion, Calvary were hoping to gift their supporters a memorable maiden win, but Entebbe UPPC had other ideas, delivering a clinical performance that underlined their bright start to the season.

The first half offered little to separate the two sides until the 37th minute, when Samuel Junior Kawawa broke the deadlock with a well-placed strike to hand the visitors a narrow lead heading into the break.

Moments after the restart, a heavy downpour swept across the pitch, and with it came a flurry of goals.

Entebbe’s Hassan Ssenyonjo doubled the lead just five minutes into the second half, but Calvary responded almost immediately through John Rogers, who slotted home to spark brief celebrations from the home crowd.

That momentum, however, quickly faded as Ambrose Kigozi and Muhammad Kyeyune found the net in quick succession to stretch Entebbe’s advantage to 4–1.

A late penalty from Lawrence Olaboro reduced the deficit, but it was too little, too late for the hosts.

The defeat leaves Calvary still searching for their first league win, languishing at the bottom of the table with just one point from five outings. Entebbe UPPC, on the other hand, continue their impressive run, climbing to fourth place with ten points.
