Lugazi Trekkers Stun Unbeaten Sailors to Claim Mukono T20 Crown

Lugazi Trekkers produced a nervy, spirited performance to upend the previously undefeated Buvuma Sailors and lift the first-ever Mukono T20 Cup in a pulsating final at Florida Oval.

Electing to bat, the Trekkers posted 150 for 8 — a competitive total fashioned through contributions across the lineup rather than a single dominant innings.

The Sailors replied with 146 for 8, falling short by just four runs in a finish that left the crowd breathless.

Buvuma’s opener Harshal Panchal carried the chase with a remarkable 84, anchoring the innings as wickets tumbled around him. With victory within touching distance, the Sailors required 15 from the last over.

Emetu Paul, the Trekkers’ composed death-overs specialist, held his nerve: after two dot balls and a massive six off the third delivery, Panchal was dismissed on the fourth, the pivotal breakthrough that shifted the momentum firmly back to Lugazi. Paul saw out the remainder and sealed a dramatic tournament-winning moment.

The week-long competition, contested by six sides in a round-robin format, had seen Buvuma sweep through the group stage without defeat, making their final loss all the more surprising.

Alongside the finalists, Mukono Development, Buikwe Gladiators, Njeru Warriors and Kayunga Titans contributed to an entertaining maiden edition that established a lively new fixture on the local cricket calendar.

Lugazi Trekkers took home UGX 400,000 as champions while the Sailors collected UGX 250,000 as runners-up. The tightly fought final, a blend of steady batting, smart bowling and tense finishing provided a memorable curtain-closer for Mukono’s inaugural T20 showpiece.
