Maroons FC and NEC FC settled for a 1–1 stalemate in a fiercely contested Uganda Premier League duel at the Luzira Prisons Grounds on Saturday afternoon.
The contest kicked off with both sides displaying ambition, trading surges forward and matching each other stride for stride. Despite the lively tempo, the opening half remained barren, thanks to disciplined defending and sharp goalkeeping from both camps.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 75th minute. Ivan Asaba capped off a sweeping Maroons move with a composed low finish after being expertly found by the industrious Mujahid Ogama, igniting excitement among the home faithful.

However, NEC wasted no time crafting a response. Barely two minutes later, Marvin Kavuma pounced on Joseph Dhata’s inviting delivery, guiding the ball past the keeper to restore parity and silence the earlier cheers.
The closing moments were charged with urgency as each side hunted for a decisive strike, but neither managed to tilt the balance.
The point leaves NEC in ninth position on 10 points after eight outings, while Maroons follow closely in 10th with nine points from the same tally of matches.
NEC will now brace for a more demanding test as they welcome defending champions Vipers on Friday, December 5, at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
