Magogo Breaks Silence on Unplayed Kitara vs Vipers Fixture

The opening round of the 2025/26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season concluded last week, but table leaders Vipers SC and Kitara FC remain with an outstanding fixture after their first-round meeting failed to take place.

The match, originally scheduled for October 4, 2025 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, was never played after Vipers opted not to honour the tie in protest against the league’s proposed new format.

Up to now, both the FUFA Competitions Department and the Uganda Premier League secretariat have not issued an official ruling regarding the matter, leaving the outcome of the game unresolved.

Speaking on NBS Sport on Wednesday morning, FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo revealed that the case has since been handed over to the judicial authorities.

“Kitara vs Vipers has become a judicial matter, and the judicial body will decide. But I have told them, this case is damaging our image,” Magogo stated.

Background of the dispute

Vipers’ decision to boycott the fixture stemmed from their dissatisfaction with the new league format that FUFA had introduced earlier in the season, a format which was later suspended.

Two days before the match, the Kitende-based club, through president Lawrence Mulindwa, formally communicated to FUFA and the league organisers that they would not travel to Namboole for the fixture.

Despite Vipers’ stance, Kitara FC honoured the match arrangements and arrived at the venue as required, only to find an empty stadium with no opposition.

Verdict still pending

Following the incident, Vipers management later petitioned the federation, requesting that the game be rescheduled and played at a later date.

However, emerging reports suggest that the Venoms could face serious consequences, including forfeiture of the match and an additional three-point deduction from their current tally.

Vipers completed the first round at the summit with 36 points, while Kitara sit fifth on 29 points, but the final decision now lies in the hands of FUFA’s judicial bodies.
