League leaders Vipers SC will be looking to strengthen their grip at the summit when they visit UPDF FC on Wednesday afternoon in the Uganda Premier League.
The Venoms travel to the Military Barracks Ground in Bombo with momentum and confidence, hoping to maintain their advantage at the top of the standings. With 43 points, Vipers have the chance to re-establish a four-point cushion after Kitara FC temporarily narrowed the gap to one point following their victory over Mbarara City FC on Tuesday.
Despite UPDF’s determination to fight for survival, the statistics strongly favor the visitors. The army side currently sits second from bottom with 13 points, just two shy of the safety zone, and has struggled historically against Vipers. In their last 17 league meetings, UPDF has failed to secure a victory, losing 14 times and drawing three.
Vipers will once again rely on their attacking threats Karim Watambala, Chukwuma Odili, and Usama Arafat to unlock the UPDF defense. At the back, the experienced Hilary Mukundane is expected to marshal the defensive unit as the champions chase another crucial three points.
However, UPDF will not be short of belief after their recent 1-1 draw against Kitara. The hosts are expected to lean on Farid Rashid and newly signed striker Ivan Bogere as they attempt to pull off an upset and boost their survival hopes.
Elsewhere, fans will witness a heated Kampala derby when KCCA FC take on traditional rivals Express FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium. The fixture is always fiercely contested and could have major implications for both sides in the race for league positioning.
Later in the evening, URA FC welcome Lugazi FC under the floodlights at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo. Lugazi will be hoping to upset the tax collectors and collect valuable points in what promises to be another competitive league encounter.
