University Football Giants Braced for Quarterfinal Showdowns

The race for university football supremacy has entered a decisive phase following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Pepsi University Football League (UFL) group stage, with eight teams advancing to the knockout rounds.

Attention now shifts to the quarterfinals, where intense two-legged encounters will determine the four sides that progress to the semifinals.

The draw, conducted on Friday at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo, Kampala, set up several intriguing matchups that promise high-stakes football and fierce competition.

Two-time champions Kampala University, who dominated Group A with an unbeaten tally of 13 points, will lock horns with Bugema University in what appears to be a stern test of their title ambitions.

Reigning champions Uganda Martyrs’ University (UMU) are set for a highly anticipated clash against Muteesa I Royal University in a Masaka Road derby that carries both pride and pedigree.

Elsewhere, three-time losing finalists St Lawrence University will renew rivalries with Ndejje University in a repeat of last season’s quarterfinal encounter, adding extra spice to an already compelling fixture.

League newcomers Kumi University, who have impressed in their debut campaign, face YMCA Comprehensive in a tie that could produce a surprise semifinalist.

The draw was overseen by Martha Soigi, alongside Obal Atubo and League Manager Anthony Tumwesigye.

To ensure balance, the teams were seeded into two pots. Pot A consisted of the top-performing group winners, namely Kampala University, Muteesa I Royal University, Ndejje University, and YMCA Comprehensive. Pot B featured Uganda Martyrs University, Bugema University, St Lawrence University, and Kumi University.
