UGANDA PREMEIR LEAGUE

Battles, and Survival Fights Await as the Uganda Premier League Returns

The long-awaited return of the Startimes Uganda Premier League is finally here.

Football fans can brace themselves for exhilarating action as the league resumes on Saturday, March 1st, after a brief hiatus that accommodated the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32.

Matchday 18 promises drama, tension, and high stakes across the four fixtures kicking off at 4 PM, with an electrifying late game at 7 PM.

Mbale Heroes, rooted at the bottom of the table with a mere 9 points, face a do-or-die clash against Police FC at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

The club’s struggles are evident, with three managerial changes this season. Richard Malinga, their initial head coach, departed midway through the first round, paving the way for Asaph Mwebaze.

However, his tenure was short-lived as he mutually parted ways with the club, making room for Bakar Mbowa.

Under Mbowa’s reign, Mbale Heroes have already suffered a shocking 3-2 Uganda Cup exit at the hands of regional side Simba FC.

Police FC, sitting in 13th place with 19 points, have been inconsistent but will aim to build on their 2-0 Uganda Cup victory over Solitilo Bright Stars.

The Cops must capitalize on their momentum to steer clear of the relegation zone. A win in this fixture would provide them a crucial boost in their bid to climb the league table and avoid an end-of-season relegation scrap.

At Butema Royal Park in Hoima, hosts Kitara FC will take on URA FC in what promises to be an intriguing encounter.

Kitara FC has demonstrated significant strength at home and will be keen to impose themselves on the visitors.

URA FC, on the other hand, has shown flashes of brilliance but remains inconsistent. This fixture presents both teams an opportunity to push for a stronger finish in the league standings and keep their top-four ambitions alive.

Meanwhile, BUL FC makes the trip to Kavumba Recreation Ground to battle Solitilo Bright Stars.

BUL FC has been one of the standout performers of the season, demonstrating an attacking brand of football that has troubled many opponents.

Solitilo Bright Stars, however, will be eager to use home advantage to secure maximum points.

With both teams striving for crucial points, expect an intense contest in what has traditionally been a closely contested fixture.

The highlight of Matchday 18 is the thrilling late kickoff at 7 PM at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, where title-chasing NEC FC locks horns with the in-form Lugazi FC.

NEC FC currently sit 2nd on the table with 37 points, just three shy of leaders Vipers SC.

A win would keep them in hot pursuit of the summit and maintain their championship ambitions.

However, Lugazi FC is no pushover. The newcomers have been on fire, winning all their second-round fixtures. Their recent narrow 1-0 victories over Police FC and Wakiso Giants FC have showcased their resilience and defensive solidity.

Notably, head-to-head stats favor Lugazi FC, having won two of their last three encounters against NEC.

In the first-round meeting, Sam Ssemugugu’s lone strike secured a 1-0 victory for Lugazi FC at home.

With championship dreams, top-four ambitions, and survival battles on the line, Matchday 18 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League is set to deliver unforgettable moments.
