Buhimba United Saints Signs Former Hippos Defender

Relegation-threatened Buhimba Saints United have bolstered their backline with the acquisition of defender Simon Baligeya, the club has officially announced.

Baligeya joins the Premier League newcomers on a one-year renewable contract, becoming their first confirmed recruit of the ongoing mid-season transfer window as they fight to retain their topflight status.

The defender rose to national prominence as part of the celebrated Uganda national under-20 football team side that reached the final of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania.

His composed displays during that campaign cemented his reputation as one of the country’s promising young defenders.

Capable of operating across multiple defensive roles, Baligeya most recently featured for URA FC, although limited game time restricted his impact at the Tax Collectors.

A move to Buhimba Saints now offers him an opportunity to revive his momentum and secure regular minutes.

Baligeya’s football journey traces back to the schools circuit where he turned out for Standard High Zana, Bulo Parents and Kibuli Secondary School in national competitions.

He also gained valuable senior experience with Busia Young in the Eastern Regional League, steadily building the foundation for his professional career.

The Hoima-based outfit, guided by head coach Robert Mukasa, are desperate to steady their campaign after a challenging start to life in the top division. Buhimba Saints currently occupy 14th position on the Uganda Premier League standings with 15 points collected from 17 matches.
