BUL FC produced a spirited display to hold table leaders Vipers SC to a 1-1 draw in a hard-fought Uganda Premier League clash played at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Friday.
The contest was intense from the opening whistle, with both sides engaging in a physical battle that saw several heavy challenges and stoppages as neither team was willing to give an inch.
Despite BUL’s bright start, it was Vipers who struck first in the 31st minute. Midfielder Karim Watambala broke the deadlock with a spectacular overhead kick after BUL failed to properly clear a dangerous long throw-in, allowing the visitors to punish the defensive lapse.
However, the hosts responded immediately after the restart. Just a minute into the second half, Karim Ndugwa restored parity with a well-taken header that squeezed through a crowded penalty area and left the Vipers goalkeeper with no chance.
Vipers pushed for a late winner and came close in the closing stages when Robin Kane unleashed a fierce effort, but his strike narrowly sailed over the crossbar.
The draw sees Vipers maintain their place at the top of the Uganda Premier League standings with 37 points, while BUL remain seventh on 20 points after 16 matches.
In the other league fixture, UPDF FC and Buhimba United Saints played out a goalless draw.
