Continental Focus Shifts to CAF Interclub Football After AFCON

With the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco successfully wrapped up, African football now turns its spotlight to club competition as the CAF interclub tournaments resume this weekend.

The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2025/26 and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2025/26 return on Friday, January 23, with Matchday Three of the group stages kicking off across the continent.

At the midway point of the group phase, the upcoming fixtures carry added significance as teams jostle for places in the quarter-finals.

Action in the elite club competition begins on Friday in Alexandria, where Egyptian giants and record winners Al Ahly take on Tanzania’s Young Africans in a key Group B encounter.

Both sides have collected four points from their opening two matches, setting up a finely balanced contest.

The fixture will be a landmark moment for Ugandan international Allan Okello, who is set to make his CAF Champions League debut for Young Africans.

Elsewhere on Friday night, South African powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns welcome Sudanese outfit Al Hilal Omdurman to Pretoria.

With both teams also locked on four points in Group C, the clash is expected to play a major role in shaping the standings. Veteran Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango is once again expected to marshal the Sundowns defence.

Saturday brings more high-stakes action, including a much-anticipated meeting between defending champions Pyramids FC of Egypt and Morocco’s RS Berkane, renewing a rivalry that recently featured in the CAF Super Cup.

Fixtures continue through the weekend as clubs look to strengthen their grip on qualification or claw their way back into contention.
