Cubs head to Dubai for final build-up ahead of U17 World Cup

Uganda’s U17 men’s side, known as the Cubs, left for Dubai on Tuesday afternoon to begin a 10-day international training stint as the last phase of preparation for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar (3–27 November 2025).

The move abroad caps a productive fortnight of domestic training at home. The squad spent 12 days in camp before departure, using two tune-up games to sharpen up: a narrow 2-1 defeat to KCCA FC’s senior team and a dominant 5-0 victory over Amus College in the final match prior to travel.

A 38-person contingent, 26 players and 12 officials will undergo intensive work in Dubai as coaches finalise selections.

FUFA Executive Committee member Rasoul Ariga leads the delegation. At the end of the camp coaching staff will trim the roster to the 21 players who will travel to Qatar for Uganda’s historic maiden appearance at the tournament.
