Football Classroom Snatch Dramatic Late Victory to Reach Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 64

Non-league outfit Football Classroom continued their fairytale run in the Stanbic Uganda Cup after edging Wembley with a dramatic late strike on Sunday evening at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

With the contest drifting towards a penalty shootout, Johnson Ssenyonga emerged as the hero, firing home a decisive goal in the 92nd minute to seal Football Classroom’s place in the round of 64 draw.

Wembley had stood firm for most of the encounter, frustrating their opponents with a resilient defensive display, but Ssenyonga’s last-gasp intervention shattered their resistance in the dying moments of added time.

The victory marks a second successive qualification to the round of 64 for Football Classroom under the guidance of seasoned tactician Felix Ssekabuuza, who masterminded Buganda Masaza Cup success last year.

Ssekabuuza is assisted by Muwanguzi Joel, popularly known as Man Jo, the head of scouting at St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School, Kitende, while journalist Becky Cynthia Nakimera oversees operations as the club’s Chief Executive Officer.

Football Classroom’s journey in this year’s competition has been nothing short of impressive.

They kicked off their campaign against Kayda Sports Club before knocking out Red Ants, Hearts Lukuuli and now Wembley to keep their Uganda Cup dream alive.

In the previous edition, their run came to an end at the round of 64 stage after defeat to Buhimba United Saints, a hurdle they will be eager to overcome this time around.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Vipers SC remain the team to beat, having lifted last season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup following a convincing 2-0 victory over KCCA FC in the final held at FUFA Kadiba Stadium.
