FUFA Big League: Blacks Power tighten grip on summit after edging Kigezi Homeboyz

Blacks Power FC strengthened their hold at the top of the FUFA Big League table with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over title rivals Kigezi Homeboyz on New Year’s Eve at Akii Bua Memorial Stadium.

In a contest that carried huge promotion implications, Emmanuel Janan Okech proved the difference, calmly scoring in the 72nd minute to hand the league leaders maximum points. The narrow win pushed Blacks Power’s tally to 28 points and created slight breathing space at the summit.

The defeat proved costly for Kigezi Homeboyz, who slipped behind a new challenger. Ntungasazi FC climbed to second place on 24 points after seeing off Soltilo Bright Stars 1-0, with James Tekakwo netting the decisive goal.

Kataka FC remain firmly in the race after opening 2026 with a 2-1 home victory over Kiyinda Boys. Goals from Sam Watuwa and Isaac Owinyi lifted Kataka to fourth place on 22 points, keeping them within touching distance of the leading pack.

Elsewhere, Iganga United halted Bunyaruguru United’s impressive run, which had seen them close 2025 with three consecutive wins. Eric Wabuzibu’s strike, aided by a lively display from attacking midfielder Usama Uthuman Mulindwa, secured a 1-0 home win for Iganga.

Paidha Black Angels also rediscovered winning form, defeating rivals Onduparaka 2-0 courtesy of goals from Joel Jagayembe and David Obed. In contrast, struggles continued for Wakiso Giants and Catida FC, who both suffered home defeats. Wakiso fell 2-0 to Kaaro Karungi, while Catida were edged 2-1 by Nebbi Central.

At the lower end of the table, Mbale Heroes grabbed a crucial 2-1 victory over Young Elephants, a result that keeps their survival hopes alive.
