FUFA Hands Suspensions to Referees After Series of Costly Errors

Ugandan football’s governing body, Federation of Uganda Football Associations, has taken decisive disciplinary action against several match officials following a string of controversial decisions in the ongoing Uganda Premier League season, sending a strong signal about its commitment to improving officiating standards.

The move follows growing concern from clubs and fans over the quality of refereeing, with FUFA’s Referees Disciplinary Panel identifying and punishing officials found guilty of breaching match regulations in recent fixtures.

In the game between Buhimba United and Police FC, six officials have been handed three-month suspensions after failing to uphold match officiating standards.

Those sanctioned include referee Musisi Henry, assistant referees Kinyera Fred and Mbabali Samuel, fourth official Ssemakula John, match commissioner Kugonza Ssemu Christopher, and referee assessor Kimbugwe Hillary Godfrey.

The panel noted that the officials allowed Buhimba United player Eric Nyonyintono to take part in the match while wearing a jersey that differed in colour from that of his teammates, a clear violation of match rules. All six will also be required to undergo a refresher course.

In a separate decision, assistant referee Immaculate Ongiera has been suspended for three months after incorrectly flagging offside and denying Hassan Mubiru a legitimate goal during the clash between SC Villa and Express FC.

Meanwhile, referee Emmanuel Okudra has also been handed a three-month suspension for disallowing a valid goal scored by SC Villa in their encounter against Police FC, a decision that was later deemed erroneous.
