Gigi Returns to Uganda Premier League

Express FC have boosted their midfield options after confirming the signing of experienced midfielder Gift Ali Abubaker on a two-year contract.

Popularly known as Gigi, the midfielder makes a return to the Uganda Premier League after spending time in Tanzania with Coastal Union FC, where he featured in the Tanzanian top flight.

Gigi is a familiar name in Ugandan football, having previously played for KCCA FC, Proline FC and Police FC.

His football journey began with Arua Central in 2009, where his impressive displays quickly earned him national recognition.

His rise saw him captain the Uganda U20 national team in 2012, a testament to his leadership qualities and maturity on the pitch.

The Red Eagles have been active in the ongoing transfer window as they continue to rebuild following the departure of several key players, with Gigi becoming the latest addition to the club’s growing list of new recruits.

In another move aimed at strengthening the squad, Express have also secured the services of left-back Shafik Lugolobi, who joins on loan from URA FC, as earlier reported by this website.

Coached by Jimmy Kintu, Express FC will now shift focus to their next league assignment, where they will host Entebbe UPPC FC on Valentine’s Day at Nakivubo Stadium.
