Despite a narrow 2-1 defeat to reigning champions Kitara FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, CATDA FC head coach Hamidu Kibirango remains resolute, shifting his team’s focus to their ultimate goal—securing promotion to the big league.
At the Coffee Grounds in Bugolobi, CATDA FC showcased their fighting spirit, pushing Kitara FC to the limit. The hosts started brightly, forcing early saves from Kitara’s goalkeeper Yawe and showing flashes of their attacking potential.
While an unfortunate own goal from Martin Kikambi in the final minutes sealed their elimination, Kibirango views the performance as a stepping stone for the team’s league ambitions.
Speaking exclusively to Xavi Sports Media, Kibirango reflected on the positives from the game: “We first and foremost thank the Almighty Allah for today’s game. It was a strong performance that will serve as motivation in our journey to take the team to the big league. The boys followed the game plan with composure and determination. Even after conceding late, we showed resilience and scored a brilliant team goal.”
Kibirango emphasized that, with the cup run over, the focus now fully shifts to the league: “Our main objective has always been promotion. We’re heading back to the drawing board to make adjustments and prepare for our second-round opener against Water FC. This result showed we’re ready for the challenge ahead.”
The Uganda Cup exit may sting, but for Kibirango, it’s fuel for the bigger goal. Every challenge faced sharpens CATDA FC’s resolve to climb the league ladder. “This loss doesn’t define us it strengthens our resolve. Every setback is an opportunity to grow, and we’re ready to fight for our place in the big league,” Kibirango concluded.
