Kampala Regional League First Phase Set to End on Sunday

The first phase of the Kampala Regional 3rd Division League is set to climax on Sunday, February 8, with all 16 teams scheduled to feature across different playgrounds.

The league, which is played in three phases, will officially conclude its opening round after this weekend’s fixtures, with several clubs still battling to finish in the top eight.

Mutungo FC, Nsambya United, Police Young and Wembley Boys will all play at home, with some teams already close to sealing a top-eight place while others still have work to do.

One of the most exciting fixtures will be at Yes Center where Nsambya United will host Kisugu FC in a direct contest for the last available slot in the top eight.

The two sides are level on 18 points and share the same goal difference of six, but Nsambya currently sit 8th while Kisugu are 9th.

Nsambya will hope to rely on experienced striker Tonny Odur and defender Hakim Matovu, while Kisugu will look to their youthful midfield talents including Brian Matu and Bruno Mukwaya to inspire them.

Mutungo FC, who are fourth on 20 points, will host bottom-placed Lufula FC at Luzira Prisons Ground.

Mutungo only need at least a point to strengthen their position, while Lufula, ranked 16th with 10 points, have already lost any realistic chance of finishing in the top eight.

Wembley Boys and Born Talent are the only teams outside the top nine that still have a chance of finishing in the top half, although their hopes depend on results involving Black Stars FC, Nsambya SC and Kisugu United.

Born Talent will host Lungujja Galaxy, while Wembley Boys will welcome 17th-ranked Water FC at East High Ntinda.

Police Young, the only side already guaranteed a top-half finish, will take on Proline at Kira Road Police Stadium.

Proline are also pushing for a strong finish and will aim to collect maximum points away from home.

In other fixtures, PCCP FC will host Buganda Road in Kibuli, while Lukuli FC will take on Edgars FC, with both sides targeting at least a point as the first phase comes to an end.

With the race for the top eight still open, Sunday’s fixtures are expected to produce intense action and decisive outcomes as the Kampala Regional League concludes its first phase.
