KCCA FC Edge Past Kaaro Karungi to Reach Uganda Cup Semifinals

KCCA FC have booked the first spot in the semifinals of the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup following a tense 2-1 triumph over Kaaro Karungi in a dramatic encounter held at Kyamate Grounds in Ntungamo on Saturday.

The fixture brought back bitter memories for the Lugogo side, who last featured at the venue during the infamous 2015 Uganda Cup final versus SC Villa, a clash overshadowed by controversial refereeing decisions by Robert Donney.

Making their long-awaited return to Kyamate, KCCA FC were determined to rewrite history and they did just that, grinding out a hard-earned victory despite their inconsistent league form this season.

Forward Derrick Nsibambi gave the visitors the lead shortly before the halftime whistle. His glancing header, which took a wicked deflection off Norman Ndyamuhaki, left the goalkeeper rooted as the ball found the net.

The heavens opened up soon after, leading to a delay in the second half kickoff due to a heavy downpour that soaked the pitch.

When play resumed, the home side struck quickly. Within three minutes, Clinton Kamugisha leveled the scoreline, sending the local crowd into a frenzy.

But KCCA remained composed, and in the 59th minute, Usama Arafat Kizza stepped up to restore the advantage with a composed finish that proved to be the match-winner.

With this result, the 13-time Uganda Premier League champions are now a step closer to adding silverware to what has been a turbulent season.

The quarterfinal action continues this Sunday 20, as reigning champions Kitara FC clash with BUL FC in Hoima on Sunday.

Monday will see Vipers SC host SC Villa in a mouthwatering showdown, while Police FC and Kataka FC will battle it out on Tuesday.
