KCCA Return to Winning Ways After Crushing UPDF 4–0

KCCA FC rediscovered their cutting edge on Tuesday evening with a commanding 4–0 victory over UPDF FC at the MTN-Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, bringing an end to a brief wobble in their title push.

The Kasasiro Boys came into the fixture under pressure after back-to-back winless outings, a 2–0 defeat to Police FC followed by a frustrating goalless draw against Maroons FC, results that cost them top spot and drew criticism towards head coach Brian Ssenyondo.

Facing an UPDF side they have traditionally dominated proved timely, and KCCA wasted no opportunity to reassert themselves.

From the opening exchanges, the hosts looked sharp and purposeful.

Their intent was rewarded in the 11th minute when Sammy Ssebadduka pounced at the far post to convert Herbert Achayi’s inviting delivery, handing KCCA an early advantage.

Ssenyondo had rung the changes, making three alterations to the side that featured against Maroons.

Hassan Muhamood slotted into central defence in place of the suspended Filbert Obenchan, while Rogers Mugisha and Brian Jjara earned starts ahead of Ashraf Mugume and Saidi Mayanja.

KCCA continued to dominate proceedings and doubled their lead on the half-hour mark. Shafik Nana Kwikiriza, operating impressively in a free number ten role, was fouled inside the area by Edward Saturo, allowing Joel Sserunjogi to calmly dispatch the resulting penalty.

UPDF struggled to mount a response, offering little threat in the final third. The decision to leave leading scorer Sam Ssekamatte on the bench, the striker having netted five of their twelve league goals further blunted their attacking edge.

The second half followed the same script. Just six minutes after the restart, Ssebadduka struck again, clinically finishing to make it 3–0 and effectively put the contest beyond reach.

Substitute Alpha Ssali then added gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time, firing home his maiden goal in KCCA colours after replacing the outstanding Ssebadduka late on.

The emphatic win lifts KCCA FC to second place on the table with 29 points, just one behind leaders Vipers SC, who face Police FC later. For UPDF FC, the defeat leaves them second from bottom on 11 points, deepening their relegation concerns.
