The race for the title in the Uganda Premier League intensifies on Tuesday as several crucial Matchday 20 fixtures take center stage across the country.
Second-placed Kitara FC travel to Kamwenge for a difficult encounter against relegation-threatened Mbarara City FC at Rwamwanja Stadium, hoping to keep pressure on leaders Vipers SC.
Kitara approach the contest on the back of a frustrating 1-1 draw with UPDF FC and currently trail the Venoms by four points. Vipers will only return to action on Wednesday when they visit UPDF in Bombo, giving the Royals an opportunity to temporarily narrow the gap.
Kitara head coach Wasswa Bbosa admits the trip to Kamwenge will not be straightforward, particularly against a side battling to stay above the relegation line.
“We didn’t get the result we wanted against UPDF last week and here we are again, ready to face another tricky side in Mbarara City. We need to play better and remain in the title chase,” Bbosa said.
“History doesn’t favor the visitors but we have the team to change that,” he added.
Historically, Kitara have struggled on visits to Mbarara City. The Royals have never won a league match away to the Ankole Lions, recording two draws and one defeat in previous meetings played at Kakyeka Stadium.
For Kitara, maximum points remain essential if they are to maintain hopes of winning their first league crown.
The visitors will receive a boost with the return of forwards Patrick Kaddu and Isa Lumu from suspension. However, midfielder Yunus Sibira will miss the encounter after accumulating too many bookings.
Elsewhere, newcomers Calvary FC will be seeking their maiden topflight victory when they host Maroons FC at Midigo Primary School Ground in Yumbe.
At Royal Park Butema, Buhimba United Saints FC welcome BUL FC, while record champions SC Villa make the short trip to Kamwokya to face Police FC.
In the late kickoff, NEC FC host Entebbe UPPC FC under the floodlights at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
