Kitara set to unveil Muhammad Shaban

Kitara FC are poised to officially unveil experienced striker Muhammad Shaban after reports confirmed he has agreed a two-year contract with the Hoima-based side.

The former Onduparaka, Vipers SC and KCCA FC forward returns to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after a spell away from local football, having last featured in the league during the 2023/24 season, where he finished as the top scorer.

Shaban’s arrival signals strong ambition from Kitara, who are currently enjoying an impressive campaign and remain firmly in the title conversation.

The Royals sit just three points behind defending champions Vipers SC, with the advantage of having a game in hand, making their league position even more promising.

Kitara will have a chance to go top of the table when they face URA FC later on Thursday at Royal Park, Butema. Victory would see them leapfrog Vipers, thanks to their superior head-to-head record, boosted by a recent boardroom ruling that handed them a win over the Kitende-based giants.

Despite scoring 25 goals so far this season, a figure below Vipers’ 35, Kitara have built their challenge on defensive solidity, conceding only 11 goals, one of the best records in the league.

A member of the club’s technical team believes Shaban’s signing is aimed at addressing their need for more attacking firepower.

“The intention is to increase our goal scoring sources and Shaban is proven in that area,” a member of the Kitara technical staff told Kawowo Sports.

Shaban joins a forward line already boosted by Patrick Kaddu, who has netted seven goals this season. The duo are expected to form a dangerous partnership, offering Kitara more options in the final third.

The striker is expected to make his first appearance for Kitara in the Stanbic Uganda Cup tie against Entebbe UPPC next week.
