Kyaggwe Ssaza have moved to strengthen their backroom staff ahead of the forthcoming Masaza Cup, with Lugazi FC head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa set to assume the position of technical director.
The development signals a strategic reshuffle within the county’s technical setup as they intensify preparations for Buganda’s most celebrated football championship.
Mugerwa is no stranger to the Kyaggwe dugout. During last year’s campaign, he steered the side to the semifinals, only to bow out after a tense penalty shootout defeat to eventual champions Buweekula. His transition to a supervisory technical role is viewed as a move aimed at providing broader tactical guidance and structural oversight.
Under the new arrangement, Ronald Ssali will take charge as head coach. Ssali, a respected figure in youth football circles, currently leads Bukedea Comprehensive, whom he guided to the East African football crown last year. His résumé also includes stints with Bulemeezi in the Masaza Cup and a technical director role at Buweekula in 2023.
He will be supported by Robert Ssekweyama and William Kyeswa as assistant coaches. Kyeswa makes a return to Kyaggwe, having previously served as head coach during the 2023 Masaza edition.
Kyaggwe continue their pursuit of a first-ever Masaza Cup title. Their closest brush with glory came in 2024 when they reached the final under David Mutono Katono but fell 1-0 to Buddu.
The Masaza Cup, organized by the Buganda Kingdom since 2004, has produced several dominant counties over the years. Gomba remain one of the most decorated sides, while Buddu, Bulemeezi, Singo, Mawokota, and others have all etched their names into the competition’s history.
