Lugazi FC endured a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Maroons FC in a highly competitive Uganda Premier League Matchday 21 encounter on Friday, March 28.
The decisive moment came in the 19th minute when Abel Eturude clinically slotted home from a well-threaded pass by Baden Mujahid, sealing all three points for the Prison Wardens.
Maroons FC dominated proceedings in the first half, creating multiple scoring opportunities while keeping Lugazi FC on the back foot. Despite a valiant effort in the second half, Lugazi FC was unable to find the breakthrough to level the contest.
Lugazi FC head coach Steven Bogere sought to inject fresh energy into his side, making tactical substitutions to alter the course of the game.
Hussein Ssenoga and Emmanuel Obua made way for Birungi Alvin and Freedom Mungudit, respectively.
Further changes saw Jumah Junior Lutakome replace Sam Ssemugugu in the 52nd minute.
On the opposite bench, Maroons FC head coach Muhammad Ssenfuma made strategic substitutions to maintain his team’s advantage.
Godwin Kitagenda was introduced for Muwadda Mawejje in the 62nd minute, while Felix Okot replaced Baden Mujahid Ogama just five minutes before stoppage time.
With this result, Maroons FC ascends to 6th place on the league table with 30 points, while Lugazi FC slips to 11th position, holding 26 points.
Looking ahead, Maroons FC will aim to build on this victory when they host Express FC at Luzira Prison Grounds on April 5.
Meanwhile, Lugazi FC faces a daunting challenge on April 3, making the long journey to St. Mary’s Stadium to take on table-toppers Vipers SC.
Elsewhere in the League UPDF FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wakiso Giants FC at Kabaka Kyabagu Stadium, further intensifying the battle for crucial points in the league standings.
