Muhumuza Parts Ways with Vipers to Fully Embrace Uganda Cranes Role

Fred Muhumuza has officially ended his stint at Vipers SC after receiving a fresh mandate to serve as the assistant coach to Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put.

Swift Sports Uganda reports that Muhumuza will now channel his full energy and expertise into the national team setup, bringing to a close his tenure at Vipers, a club he joined in 2024.

His departure comes as he steps into the shoes of Sam Ssimbwa, whose contract as assistant coach expired last month.

Ssimbwa, appointed in November 2023 as Put’s right-hand man, exits the role despite the Belgian tactician recently inking a new two-and-a-half-year deal to remain at the Cranes’ helm.

Muhumuza’s stock has risen rapidly over the past year. He guided Vipers to a historic domestic double last season, working alongside John Ayala Luyinda.

On the international front, he teamed up with Morley Byekwaso to steer Uganda to the quarterfinals of this year’s CHAN tournament, further cementing his reputation as a meticulous and progressive coach.

The former SC Villa and Victors midfielder has also left footprints at URA FC, Bumate United, and Tooro Province in the FUFA Drum Tournament, showcasing his versatility across different football environments.

Paul Put’s technical bench continues to take shape, with Gerry Oste (Goalkeeping Coach), Denis Mathieu (Performance Coach), Frank Arthur Naudts (Fitness Coach), Jelle Sevenhant (Video Analyst 1), Hichem Boumbar (Video Analyst 2), and Christian Goossens (Sports Scientist) all forming a robust support unit around the Belgian strategist.
