Mutungo FC Secure Second Straight Win in Kampala Regional League

Mutungo FC continued their perfect start to the 2025/26 Kampala Regional League campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kireka United at the Luzira Prisons Grounds on Saturday, November 8.

It took just three minutes for Mutungo’s lively midfielder Innocent Tumuhimbise to break the deadlock, and he did it in spectacular fashion. After Patrick Mukuza was brought down near the edge of the box by Eric Muzungu, Tumuhimbise stepped up and unleashed a venomous free kick that curled beautifully into the far top corner, leaving goalkeeper Cyrus Azibu Mbuya rooted to his spot.

That early strike proved decisive as both sides struggled to find clear-cut chances afterward.

The first half offered little in terms of attacking flair, with Mutungo shot-stopper Stewart Matovu enjoying a largely quiet spell between the sticks.

After the restart, Mutungo attempted to double their advantage through Talib Yokole, Adule Deogratius, and Kevin Bismarck, but their finishing lacked precision.

Kireka United nearly snatched a dramatic equalizer late in the game when Isaac Ntambi dribbled past Mutungo’s backline after a teasing low cross from Deckmoa Kabanda, but he hesitated and the chance went begging.

With back-to-back victories, a 4–0 rout of Water FC followed by this narrow triumph, Mutungo FC look like early contenders for the title. They next visit Born Talent FC at Kyambogo College on Thursday, November 13.

Meanwhile, Kireka United, who have now recorded a win and a loss, will look to bounce back when they meet Black Stars FC at King’s Park, Bweyogerere, on the same day.
