The rapid strides in the development of Hoima City Stadium have reignited government interest, with Turkish construction giant Summa poised to take charge of the upcoming phase of renovations at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Summa, currently driving Hoima’s evolution into a state-of-the-art sports complex, is set to replace the UPDF Engineering Brigade at Namboole following Uganda Cranes’ World Cup Qualifier against Somalia in September.
The company has projected that concrete works at Hoima will be wrapped up by April, clearing the path for the final touches on the primary stadium.
Hoima Stadium is anticipated to be match-ready by August, with additional work continuing on auxiliary facilities, including an indoor arena and swimming pool.

As a result, from September onwards, Uganda’s national teams will relocate their home fixtures to Hoima while further enhancements at Namboole get underway.
According to Lt. Col. English Peter Kidemuka of the UPDF Engineering Brigade, the next phase at Namboole will feature a new canopy over the stands, an expanded VVIP section, and increased overall seating capacity.
The ambitious upgrades also encompass a multipurpose indoor arena mirroring the one taking shape in Hoima.
These enhancements are crucial as Uganda gears up to co-host AFCON 2027.
Summa’s reputation for swift and high-quality execution has made it a preferred partner for large-scale sports infrastructure projects.
The company’s impressive portfolio includes delivering Rwanda’s 10,000-seat Kigali Arena in just six months, employing a mix of over 1,200 local workers and 500 Turkish personnel.
Beyond Rwanda, Summa has successfully completed landmark projects such as the Kigali Convention Centre, Dakar Arena in Senegal, and extensive upgrades to Amahoro Stadium.
With its efficiency on display in Hoima, anticipation is high that the next phase of Namboole’s transformation will be executed with the same precision and speed.
As Uganda races against time to ensure all facilities meet the December 2026 deadline for AFCON 2027, Summa’s involvement signals a major boost in the country’s preparations for the continental showpiece.
