National Open Pool Championship Reaches The Climax

The 2025 National Open Pool Championship is set to reach its grand finale this Sunday, December 21, at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, with huge prizes and bragging rights on the line.

This year’s edition promises high drama as winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will walk away with brand new Subaru vehicles, a prize that has further raised the stakes of the prestigious tournament.

Reigning men’s champion Mansoor Bwanika returns with confidence as he eyes back-to-back titles.

Having lifted the crown last year after defeating Ibrahim Ssejjemba in the final, Bwanika believes he is even better prepared this time around.

“I won the title last year and I hope I can clinch it again this year. I feel more focused and improved compared to last season, so I’m ready to defend my title,” Bwanika said.

However, his title defense begins with a tough test, as he has been paired against 2015 champion Amos Ndyagumanawe in the opening round of the men’s championship.

The men’s event has attracted a strong field of over 128 players, including former champions Ceaser Chandiga and Alfred Gumikiriza, underlining the competitive nature of this year’s tournament.

Matches in the men’s category will be played on a race-to-five format up to the quarterfinal stage, before switching to a race to seven in the semifinals and a race to nine in the final.

In the women’s category, defending champion Marion Kisakye will be hoping to successfully protect her crown as she competes against 31 other challengers.

Kisakye emerged victorious last year and will be keen to repeat that feat in what is expected to be another fiercely contested draw.
