NEC FC have been dealt a huge blow following confirmation that dependable defender Jacob Okao will be sidelined for an extended period after sustaining a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Okao picked up the unfortunate injury during NEC’s 2-2 draw with Police FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday — a game that now leaves the club with more to worry about beyond the dropped points.
The club has since revealed that the center-back underwent a successful surgical procedure at Case Clinic on Monday, with recovery expected to take between six to twelve months.

“Our defender Jacob Okao has successfully undergone a surgery at Case Clinic after sustaining an Achilles tendon rupture. He is expected to be out for 6-12 months as he begins his recovery journey,” the club confirmed in an official statement.
The injury rules Okao out for the remainder of the current campaign, marking a significant setback for the NEC backline that has relied heavily on his composure and leadership in defense.
