NEC FC have bolstered their attacking options with the acquisition of striker Samuel Ssekamatte Kayongo on a two-year employment contract from UPDF FC.
Ssekamatte becomes the eighth recruit unveiled by the Bugolobi-based outfit during the ongoing mid-season transfer window, underlining the club’s intent to reshape its squad for a stronger second-round campaign.
The seasoned frontman arrives with a proven scoring pedigree. During his one-and-a-half-year spell at UPDF, he struck 18 league goals, five of them coming in the current campaign.
His addition provides timely reinforcement to a frontline that has recently been stretched, with Cromwell Rwothomio unavailable due to disciplinary matters and Emmanuel Ajo sidelined by a knee injury.
Widely regarded as a dependable finisher, Ssekamatte brings a wealth of Uganda Premier League experience, having featured for KCCA FC, Police FC, SC Victoria University, Kira Young FC, BUL FC, Masaka LC FC, Soltilo Bright Stars FC and Arua Hill SC.
Beyond Uganda’s borders, he also enjoyed productive spells with Red Arrows FC in Zambia and Malakia FC in South Sudan, further sharpening his competitive edge.
Now working under head coach Badru Kaddu, NEC are targeting a resurgence after a mixed first half of the season. The side currently occupies seventh position on 24 points from 17 matches and is eager to climb the standings in the decisive run-in.
Ssekamatte joins fellow new arrivals Richard Basangwa, Hakim Wandera, Rashid Kawawa, Muhammad Ssenoga Kagawa, Tony Atukunda, Pius Obuya and Juma Mutebi as NEC continue their rebuilding project. In addition, goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo and defender Ibrahim Kiyemba have each committed their futures to the club with fresh two-year deals.
