Police, Entebbe UPPC Eye Wins to Keep Pressure on Vipers

Police FC and Entebbe UPPC will be chasing vital victories on Tuesday as the Uganda Premier League title race heats up on Match Day 17.

Joint third placed Entebbe UPPC and Police, both tied on 31 points alongside record champions SC Villa, will face Mbarara City and Buhimba United Saints respectively, aiming to stay within touching distance of leaders Vipers SC who sit top with 37 points.

At the Fisheries Ground in Bugonga, Entebbe UPPC welcome Mbarara City in a fixture that carries huge significance for both ends of the table.

The Printers head into the contest on the back of a disappointing goalless draw against Express at Nakivubo, a result that slowed their momentum in the title pursuit.

However, UPPC will take confidence from their strong defensive organization, as they look to extend an impressive clean sheet run.

The reverse fixture between the two sides ended in a 1-1 stalemate, and Mbarara City will be hoping for a repeat or better, especially after earning a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Calvary in their most recent outing.

Despite an inconsistent season, the Ankole Lions remain capable of causing trouble and will be eager to frustrate UPPC once again.

Meanwhile at Royal Park in Butema, Police FC face Buhimba United Saints in another intriguing encounter.

The Cops know only three points will keep their slim title ambitions alive, but they must overcome a Buhimba side fighting for survival. The Saints are desperate to pull away from the relegation zone and are expected to put up a fierce battle.

Buhimba are just one point behind Mbarara City, and both sides remain under threat, with Mbarara sitting on 15 points, three above UPDF who currently occupy the top spot on the relegation table.

The day will climax under the Kitende floodlights as defending champions Vipers SC host NEC FC at St. Mary’s Stadium in the late kick-off.

Vipers will be determined to strengthen their grip at the summit, while NEC will look to spoil the party in what promises to be a thrilling night fixture.
