KCCA FC co-coaches Brian Ssenyondo and Jackson Magera are reportedly facing growing pressure following the club’s latest setback, with reports indicating that the mood inside the dressing room suggests the duo could be on borrowed time as former coach Sam Ssimbwa is believed to be waiting in the wings.
The Kasasiro Boys suffered a 3-1 defeat to their tenants NEC FC on Friday at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, in a result that further dented their title hopes this season.
NEC were inspired by debutant Richard Basangwa who struck twice, while Joseph Sseremba added the third goal for Badru Kaddu’s side.
KCCA’s lone response came from Ivan Ahimbisibwe but it proved only a consolation as they succumbed to another painful home defeat.
The loss marked KCCA’s second straight Uganda Premier League defeat at Lugogo after they had previously fallen to Entebbe UPPC in their last match of the first round.
Sources close to the club reveal that some players believe the current technical leadership may not last long if results do not improve, especially with the team struggling for consistency in recent weeks.
However, Ssenyondo has remained firm and insists the club still has time to recover and challenge for honours.
“We have to win. You don’t lose a trophy in sixteen games but we have to win,” Ssenyondo said after the match. “The players have to show character, attitude, zeal and prove they want it more than opponents. It is a very disappointing result for the fans and we promise to make it right.”
KCCA have now won only one of their last five league games, drawing twice and losing three, a run that has seen them lose ground on the leading pack.
They currently sit fifth on the league table with 30 points, seven behind leaders Vipers SC.
The 13-time Uganda Premier League champions will next host BUL FC at Lugogo in a fixture that could be crucial in restoring confidence and easing the pressure surrounding the club’s technical bench.
