Resilient KCCA FC Edge Past UPDF Despite Numerical Disadvantage

KCCA FC showcased their dominance over UPDF FC once again, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Bombo Military Barracks on match day 20 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The win marked their fourth away triumph this season, further solidifying their stronghold over the army side in recent encounters.

Despite being reduced to ten men, the Cityzens demonstrated resilience, with goals from Usama Arafat and Sadat Anaku ensuring all three points. Former KCCA forward Samson Kigozi netted the hosts’ lone goal in the tightly contested fixture on Thursday evening.

Building on their emphatic five-goal performance against league newcomers Mbale Heroes last week, KCCA FC started brightly, breaking the deadlock just six minutes in.

Usama Arafat rifled a powerful shot into the top left corner, setting the tempo for the visitors.

Midway through the first half, Saidi Mayanja came close to doubling the advantage, but his effort was deflected over the bar for a corner, leaving UPDF relieved.

The turning point came early in the second period when KCCA were reduced to ten men.

Joel Sserunjogi received his marching orders after accumulating two yellow cards, the latter for a foul on Ronald Kayondo in midfield.

Reacting swiftly, coach Abdallah Mubiru made tactical alterations, introducing Peter Magambo and Derrick Nsibambi for Bright Anukani and Shafik Nana Kwikiriza to stabilize the team following the dismissal.

Even with a numerical disadvantage, KCCA remained threatening and found their second goal in the 70th minute, courtesy of Sadat Anaku’s clinical finish.

However, UPDF clawed one back in the 81st minute when Samson Kigozi unleashed a stunning long-range strike, igniting hopes of a comeback.

Despite UPDF’s late surge, KCCA held firm to seal the win, propelling them to fourth place with 31 points. Meanwhile, UPDF FC remains in 11th position with 24 points from 20 matches.

In another league fixture, Lugazi FC registered a convincing 3-1 victory over Mbale Heroes at Mbale Municipal Stadium, continuing their impressive run.
