The 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup has taken a dramatic twist for record winners Gomba, who have now slumped to their third consecutive defeat, prompting head coach Simon Ddungu ‘Dunga’ to step down from his role with immediate effect.
In a tense clash held at the Kakindu Parish playground on Sunday 13th, Gomba fell 2-1 to an inspired Busujju side, a result that deepens the woes for the five-time champions and leaves them rooted at the bottom of the table without a single point.

Despite high expectations and heavy investment into pre-tournament preparations, Gomba have failed to find their footing in this year’s edition.
Having narrowly lost their opening two fixtures to Buddu and Ssese by identical 1-0 scorelines, Sunday’s defeat marked a tipping point.
The match saw Busujju dominate early proceedings, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
Gomba returned with renewed hunger as Joseph Ssewali leveled matters for the visitors.
Though Gomba managed to pull one back, it was too little, too late, and their search for a win continues.

Busujju, on the other hand, remain unbeaten after three outings and now boast seven points, affirming their intentions as serious contenders this season.
Following the final whistle, a visibly frustrated Simon Ddungu confirmed his resignation, citing the team’s poor run and his responsibility as head coach.
His departure now leaves Gomba in urgent need of new technical leadership ahead of their next fixture, a tricky away tie against Busiro at Sentema.
Elsewhere in Matchday 3 action, Kkooki and Buwekula played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Friday 11th.
Kyadondo and Bugerere shared spoils in a 1-1 draw, while Butambala and Ssingo settled for a goalless stalemate on Saturday.
Sunday produced thrilling action:
- Kyaggwe 2-0 Mawogola
- Mawokota 3-0 Buvuma
- Buddu 1-0 Ssese
- Busiro 1-0 Buluuli
