St Lawrence University Triumphs Over YMCA in University Football League

St Lawrence University secured a crucial 3-1 victory over YMCA in the University Football League match played on Wednesday evening, February 12, 2025. Despite the absence of their head coach Davis Nono on the touchline, the hosts displayed dominance throughout the game, claiming all three points in a thrilling encounter.

The match started with St Lawrence University asserting early control, and their efforts paid off in the 18th minute when captain Ronnie Ziraba found the back of the net with a brilliant finish, giving his team a deserved lead going into halftime.

The second half saw an electrifying start from both sides. However, just two minutes after the restart, Matega Innocent doubled the advantage for St Lawrence with a stunning goal, further dampening the visitors’ hopes.

YMCA responded with resilience, and their determination was rewarded in the 64th minute when David Ochwo pulled one back, giving the visitors a glimmer of hope.

YMCA continued to press for an equalizer, but St Lawrence’s shot-stopper, Muhammad Kateete, stood firm, making crucial saves to deny the visitors any further breakthrough.

As the game approached its final moments, Mugerwa Lawrence sealed the victory for St Lawrence with a well-taken strike in the 90th minute, ensuring a comfortable win for the home side.

With this victory, St Lawrence University ascended to the top of Group C with seven points, while YMCA dropped to second place with five points.

The University Football League action continues on Thursday, February 13, as Kampala University takes on Gulu University at Luzira Maximum Prison ground at 3:00 PM Ugandan time.
